Note: for children, spouses or significant others:
Are there any fitness requirements?
If you have any questions regarding whether specific health issues will prevent you from participating, please consult your health care provider. In general, such things as asthma, high blood pressure, back problems, etc. will not necessarily prevent you from participating, as long as you get approval from your doctor and take the proper precautions.
Iím not that fast, how can I help?
First of all, two of our main goals are to help you improve your overall fitness and to have a lot of fun doing it. Speed is not a requirement (Although it doesnít hurt!)† Each meet has a number of relay events by age group. If we only have 3 participants of a particular age group and sex and require 4, we donít have a team for that event. The mere fact that you choose to participate may give us the 4th member of a relay team, therefore giving us needed points in a meet!
What is the commitment? What if I canít make the practices?
Obviously, it is in your own best interest to make all the practices, since they are designed to slowly increase your strength, speed and flexibility to insure you remain injury-free. However we understand we all have lives and sometimes track practice is not at the top of the priority list. We ask you make the practices when you can, and when you can not, try to practice on your own in order to maintain your growing fitness level.
I work 2nd (or 3rd shift). Is that a problem?
Three of the five meets are on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 P.M. You will have to work it out with your shift manager to either swap with someone or get the time off. As far as teh practices go, they are all currently scheduled for 5:30 P.M. on weekday evenings. If we get a few participants who cannot make many of the practices because of working 2nd shift, perhaps we can coordinate practices at a different time. Folks will have to make me aware of their situation.
