MECTA Award Winners

Each year awards are given to outstanding participants in track & field. This year (2004) we added an award to the 2 existing awards. We now present the following:
Captain of the Year (formerly 'Coaches Award')
This is presented to a team captain who meets the following criteria:
-- represents the spirit of wellness and participation,
-- makes a significant contribution to the successful operation of the team,
-- captain and/or MECTA member for at least two (2) years,
-- a role model for other team and MECTA members,
-- trains to participate at a personal competitive level,
-- participant in at least 75% of MECTA meets,
-- and participant in multiple events.

Peter Cooley Award (based on the Coaches award):
This is a new award, presented to someone other than a captain who represents the spirit of wellness
and participation and made a significant contribution to the successful operation of the team.
This award is presented in memory of Peter Cooley, an Idexx employee and runner
who died in the spring of 2004 during an ascent of Mt. Rainier in Washington state.

  Tim Smith Award
This is presented to the outstanding distance runner of the season.
Runners competing in the 800M, 1600M, 2 mile and 5K events will be eligible.
This award is presented in memory of Tim Smith, a UNUM employee who died in 1987.
