Below is a list of L.L. Bean track & field practice Dates, along with meet dates.
All practices begin at 5:30 PM. Any practice cancellation will occur by 3:00 PM.

NOTE: Brunswick dates are included but they are probably 'un-coached' practices...
You will need to see the practice description below for the day's workout!

Note 1: All practices consist of the following:
           before 5:30 PM: individual stretching
                  5:30 PM: team warm up
                           work out 'de jour'
                           individual cool down

Note 2: We hope you try to make 2 workouts a week. The Portland/South Portland
          workouts are held with the UNUM-Provident team. Kathy McCosh will be leading
          the Tuesday workouts at Bowdoin College as an alternatives for one of the others.
          The Bowdoin workouts are listed here as identical to the Monday schedule....
          ...but that could change on the whim of the 'workout leader'.
          If you choose to workout on your own, you can use this plan as a guide.


April

April 8 -- South Portland - Introductions, 1 mile warm up, 3 easy 800’s, team cool down.

April 11--South Portland -
                  Introductions, 1.3 mile warm up, option of 1 or two miles of 200-meter (2 poles) pick-ups on
                 Fickett Street Loop, followed by 1 or 2 mile cool down back to high school. A total of 3 or 5 mile workout.

April 16-- South Portland -
                  Introductions, team warm up, 3 moderate 800’s, cool down,
                  newcomers asked to stay 20 minutes longer for track introduction

April 18 -- South Portland -
                  Introductions, 1.3 team warm up, option of 1 or 2 miles of 200 meters (2 poles)
                  Pick-up on Fickett Street Loop, followed by 1 or 2 mile cool down back to High School.
                  A total of a 3 or 5 mile workout.
                  Field events personnel begin throwing and jumping.

April 22 -- Baxter Blvd
                  Meet at Marginal Way parking lot, team stretching followed by 1.5 mile warm up to Cheverus High School.
                  More team stretching followed by 2-3 miles of 30-second pick-ups in groups.
                  Individual cooling down back to parking lot.

April 24 -- Eastern Prom (North St. Hills)
                 
Meet at Fort Allen Park, team stretching followed by 1mile warm up to lower section of North Street.
                  Do 600-meter hill 5-8 times with full half-mile recovery around loop.
                  Cool down back to Fort Allen Park

April 29 -- South Portland -
                  Introductions, moderate team 800, followed by a 6 lap (2400 meters) Indian which will consist
                  of approximately 6 100-meter pick ups. This will be followed by 2-4 400’s.
                  There will also be an introduction to starts out of the block. Field events, cool down.

MAY

May 2 -- SMTC (Hills)
                  Report to rear of Gym for stretching followed by a 1 mile warm up around campus.
                  Team then doing 4-8 figure eight loops (600-800 meters) with one long, one moderate and one short hill on loop.
                 Cool down.

May 7 -- Baxter Blvd
                  Team report to Marginal Way parking lot. Team stretching will be followed by 3 100-meter strides on soccer field
                  and then one mile warm up. Team will split into two groups.
                  Distance - 45 second pick ups for remainder of the boulevard (2.5 miles) followed by a cool down.
                  Sprinters - 20-30 second pick-ups for 1.5-2 miles followed by a cool down.

May 9 -- SP (Evans St. Hills)
                  Team warm up to Evans Street where team will do 6-8 120 meter hill pick-ups.
                  Distance - full Fickett Street Loop (3 miles with strong tempo and one mile cool down)
                  Sprinters - report back to the high school to do 6-8 40-meter starts,
                  with or without blocks and finish with an easy 800. Field events, cool down.

May 13 -- Portland
                  First practice at Portland’s new Fitzpatrick Stadium. Team warm up around USM Campus.
                  Four infield strides will be followed by
                  a team introductory 6 lap Indian of approximately 6 100-meter pick-ups.
                  Sprinters will do 4-8 strong 200-meter runs
                  Distance runners will do 4-6 strong 400 runs.
                  Field events, starts, cool down.

May 15 -- Sable Oaks (Hills)
                  Report to GHBass parking lot behind Marriott off Running Hill Road.
                  Team warm up through golf course. This will be followed by a hill workout, divided into a
                  workout for sprinters and another for distance runners. Cool down around course roads.

May 20 -- South Portland
                  Warm up followed by baton passing instruction.
                  Team will then do an easy warm up 800 followed by 8-10 200-meter runs passing the baton.
                  Field events, starts, cool down.

May 22 -- Changed to Westbrook H.S. (From Scarborough Beach)
                  Beack run was replaced by tack workout because the 1st meet is next week and we need to be on the track!!!
                 --- Warm up followed 10-12 laps of striding the straights and jogging the corners,
                 --- Work on all field events, passes, etc.           An easy cool down encouraged.

May 27 -- South Portland - CANCELLED
                  This practiced was cancelled because of Memorial Day (no one shows up these days anyway!.
                  The workout was moverd to May 22.

May 29 -- First MECTA MEET:   Falmouth H.S.  (click school name for meet description)


June


June 3 --- South Portland H.S
           Team building 4-5 lap Indian followed by
           4-6 quality 400''s, starts & field events.

June 5 --- South Portland H.S
            Sprinters: 3x400, 4x300 with quality  recoveries.
            Distance: 4-6 800''s
            Starts  & Field events.

June 10 -- Portland(?)
           Team doing 3x400, 4x300, 5x200
           Field events.
June 12 -- MECTA MEET:   Brunswick H.S.  (click school name for meet description)
June 17 -- South Portland H.S
            Sprinters: 4 infield strides followed by 4-6 100 meter starts.
            Distance:  4-6 800 meter repeats
            Field events.

June 19 -- South Portland H.S
            Distance:  strong  tempo run of 4.9 miles
            Sprinters: 2x800, 2x400, 2x200.

June 24 --  Portland(?)
             8-10x200''s  passing the baton, starts and field Events.
             A strong workout in preparation for Regionals in 5 days.
June 29 -- MECTA MEET:   South Portland H.S.  (click school name for meet description)


July


July 2 --- South Portland H.S
           Ladder work --
           Sprinters:600-400-400-200-200-400-400-600
           Distance: 400-600-800-1200-800-600-400

July 8 --- South Portland H.S
           Team doing 1x800, 2x300. 3x600. 2x300, 1x800
July 10 -- MECTA MEET:   South Portland H.S.  (click school name for meet description)
July 16 -- South Portland H.S
           Team infield strides followed by
           Sprinters: 4-6x400, 6x200.
           Distance: the same or 3-5 repeat miles with 5-6 minute recoveries.   Field events, passing and starts.
